There’s something about the Casio WS-1700H that makes it an iconic series right off the bat. Perhaps it’s because it looks somewhat like a heavy duty version of the highly popular AE1200WH. There is something about the rugged and heavily labeled octagonal bezel and the instrument panel-like LCD display with multicolor windows that makes it a winner. Although it’s not a G-Shock, the WS-1700H was getting a lot of attention before its release and has been selling out in Japan. Early January pre-orders for the WS-1700H-1AJF sold out very quickly at the official Casio Japan website, and it also sold out at other large retailers like Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera shortly after.
Casio America has now released the black WS1700H-1AV, khaki WS1700H-5AV, and gray WS1700H-8AV in the U.S. for $35.95 each (links below). Asia (excluding Japan) is also getting these three models (WS-1700H-1AV, WS-1700H-5AV, and WS-1700H-8AV).
Along with the unique design, the WS-1700H offers a host of features aimed at ocean use and marine sports, including 100-meter water resistance, approximate 10-year battery (CR2025), tide and moon graphs (and moon age data), dual time, 1/100-second stopwatch, 24-hour countdown timer with auto-repeat, 3 independent multi-function alarms (with 1 snooze), hourly time signal, LED backlight (1.5 or 3 seconds), full-auto calendar, and button tone on/off.
