Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medalist Kelvin Hoefler did not make the podium this time around in Paris but was part of an entertaining and dramatic final round for men’s street skateboarding. The Team G-Shock athlete finished in sixth place for Brazil. Japan’s Yuto Horigome won the gold again, scoring a 97.08 on his last trick attempt with only one trick previously landed during the 5-trick round, which put him in first place by 0.10. Americans Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston won the silver and bronze medals respectively, with Eaton having a chance at the gold on his final trick attempt.
We expected Hoefler to possibly wear his signature G-Shock DW-5600KH-1 collaboration with Powell Peralta during the competition, but he was actually wearing the recent G-Shock GD-B500-1, perhaps chosen for its slimness (11 millimeters) and lightness (45 grams). Hoefler wore the watch during the preliminary round but ended up wearing a wrist brace for the entire final round.
Kelvin Hoefler also wore the G-Shock GD-B500-1 during a training session.
California-born surfer and Team G-Shock athlete Kanoa Igarashi, who is representing his parents’ home country of Japan, defeated Italy’s Leonardo Fioravanti in Round 2 yesterday and will face off against Brazil’s Gabriel Medina in Round 3 today. Igarashi has been wearing a G-Shock watch as he usually does during competitions. We have not been able to identify it, but it appears to be a 5600 model.
(Update: Igarashi was defeated by Medina and will not be advancing to the quarter-finals.)
