G-Shock Mudman GW-9501KJ-8JR: Love The Sea And The Earth 2024 Earthwatch collab is inspired by the Blakiston’s fish owl

This year’s collaboration with Earthwatch Japan will see the release of the G-Shock Mudman GW-9501KJ-8JR inspired by the Blakiston’s fish owl. This endangered species is the world’s biggest living owl and is native to China, Japan, and Russia. Earthwatch models typically offer some of the more out-there colorways, but this model is arguably a bit more conservative with black and brown resin part, a gold ion-plated stainless steel bezel parts, rose gold or black for the buttons and button shafts, plus some yellow accents. The Earthwatch logo appears on the display when the LED backlight is activated, and the Love The Sea And The Earth 2024 logo is engraved on the case back.

The Mudman GW-9500 series has apparently taken over the Rangeman GW-9400 as the Earthwatch base of choice, as this is the second Earthwatch collaboration with the GW-9500. The GW-9500 features Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time adjustment, the Triple Sensor (altimeter-barometer, compass, thermometer), a duplex LCD display with compass pointers, Carbon Core Guard case, and mud and dust resistance.

Unlike last year’s model based on the Fiji banded iguana, this year’s model has a stainless steel front bezel piece and weighs seven grams more (88 grams total) than a GW-9500 watch with a full resin bezel.

The GW-9501KJ-8JR is scheduled for a November 2024 release in Japan with a tax-included price of 64,900 yen. Limited edition Earthwatch collaborations like this are typically released only in Japan.
