Authorized Casio retailer Arizona Fine Time is now selling the G-Shock GMB2100SD-1A ($550) in the U.S. featuring higher-contrast hour markers and hands compared to the GMB2100D-1A. This gives it a functional advantage, but it still has an inverted LCD display like most other GM-B2100 models. While the full analog GMC-B2100 has taken the limelight recently, there are many reasons to consider the GMB2100SD-1A or other GM-B2100 watches, which are also equipped with Tough Solar power and the optional Bluetooth smartphone link.
Compared to GMCB2100 models, the GMB2100SD-1A has about a 30% lower price, a smaller overall size with a more minimalist dial design, on-watch world time, 1/100-second stopwatch increments for the first hour, multiple alarms (5 daily alarms with 1 snooze), a reminder function (requiring Bluetooth and app), hourly time signal, and the hand shift function to temporarily move the hands away from the LCD display. The LCD display has its own LED backlight in addition to a dial light for the hands. The GM-B2100 also has a screw-back case like the first G-Shock DW-5000C from 1983.
The difference between the GMB2100SD-1A (left) and GMB2100D-1A is clear when viewed side by side.
The GMB2100SD-1A is also expected to be available at gshock.casio.com/us and other retailers soon. As a Full Metal G-Shock model, the GMB2100SD-1A is made in Japan.
