Official G-Shock watches inspired by the United States and the American flag

This post is not intended as a celebration of the final result of the 2024 presidential election, but since it is the biggest news of the moment, it got us thinking about official G-Shock watches with colorways inspired by the American flag or the United States. Most of these releases are older models that are now sold out, but they can still be found on eBay.
Alife x G-Shock GDX6900AL-2 “Young America”
New York City streetwear boutique Alife released the G-Shock GDX6900AL-2 around the world in 2015, which was inspired by the vintage American flag paintings of the 1950s by artist Jasper Johns. The watch bezel and upper band are blue with large white stars, and the lower band has red and white stripes. This extra-large GD-X6900 model features a 10-year battery.
Like G-Shock, the Utah-based outdoors brand Chums was founded in 1983, and its Japanese division celebrated its 35th anniversary with the release of a U.S. flag-themed DW-5600. The black watch has a face printed with an American flag that surrounds the LCD display, and the watch comes in an eco-friendly flag-themed box.
The G-Shock DW5600US23-7 was the first Independence Day-themed G-Shock released exclusively in the U.S. in 2023. The watch has a silver bezel, a blue lower band with white stars, and a white upper band with red stripes. When activated, the EL backlight displays an American flag on the background of the LCD display. An eagle and stars emblem is engraved on the stainless steel back.
G-Shock U.S. released the DW6900US24-2 in 2024, which is another Fourth of July edition that makes up hopeful for a 2025 release. The colorway is less flag-like but features blue and red with a silver metallic face and a gold front light button. An American flag is engraved on the case back and also appears on the EL backlight. G-Shock GD-X6900CS-7
Another American-themed G-Shock is the GD-X6900CS-7 from 2014. It was part of a Crazy Color series that was unofficially inspired by NFL football team uniforms, but it was nicknamed “Captain America” by fans due to its patriotic colors.
Japanese artist Kosuke Kawamura used his shredded U.S. dollar bill motif for this 2021 DW-5600 collaboration with Beams T. The shredded presentation doesn’t seem to be intended as a criticism of America or the dollar, as the “shredder collage” is Kawamura’s signature style and heavily inspired by his friend and American artist Winston Smith. Kawamura was also commissioned by Casio to create artwork of its watches that included the shredder style for the Casio Watch 50th Anniversary (Kosuke Kawamura page at casio.com).
DQM x Journal Standard x G-Shock DW-5600 “I Love New York”
The 2015 “I Love New York” G-Shock DW-5600 collaboration with New York’s DQM (Dave’s Quality Meat) skate and streetwear boutique and Japanese fashion retailer Journal Standard was inspired by skater Chris Keeffe’s hometown, which is also the hometown of the projected winner of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Donald Trump.
Also notable for having an American flag graphic printed on the band keeper, but not pictured here, are the annual NASA-themed G-Shock watches that started in 2020.
There are also G-Shock collaborations featuring American-like colorways with brands that are strongly associated with America, such as Coca-Cola, Budweiser, and Callaway.
