Casio officially announced the G-Shock DW-5000R-1A to be released internationally in December and the DW-5000R-1AJF to be released in Japan on December 13 for 33,000 yen (about $217) including tax, making it the most screw-back models in the current lineup (excluding the limited DW-5000SS-1 from 2022 which is still available in Japan). While Casio has traditionally released limited DW-5000 reissues during anniversary celebrations every five years, the DW-5000R-1A is notable for being a more faithful reproduction of the overall look of the first-generation DW-5000C-1A from 1983, and it is a standard (non-limited) release that will be regularly available like the GW-5000U-1. Like the original, the DW-5000R-1A has a stainless steel case and screw-lock case back and is made at the Yamagata Casio mother factory in Japan.
Although the DW-5000R-1A has unique elements that match the original like the flat bezel, it is not an exact replica of the original, and the parts are not expected to be interchangeable with the DW-5000C. Casio states that the case size has been updated to 42.3 millimeters from the original 41.6 mm. The dimensions of 48.9 x 42.3 x 13.1 millimeters have a slightly smaller width and thickness than the DW-5600, GW-5000, and previous DW-5000 anniversary models. The watch weighs 76 grams.
The DW-5000R-1A has the same functions as the modern DW-5600, but it has a slightly different LCD display layout, which we covered earlier.
The DW-5000R-1A has a Super Illuminator LED backlight, and the watch has an approximate battery life of five years. It may be possible to go much longer than that if the light, alarm, and other functions are used infrequently. The bezel and band are made of bio-based resin, and the watch comes in environmentally friendly packaging like other recent G-Shock releases. The U.S. price is not confirmed yet, but it is expected to be around $230.
