WatchDavid takes a hands-on look at the G-Shock MRG-B2100D-1A and likes the matte finish

WatchDavid takes a hands-on look at the G-Shock MRG-B2100D-1A

YouTuber WatchDavid takes a hands-on look at the MRG-B2100D-1A in his most recent G-Shock video (embedded below). He states that he prefers the silver color of this model to the more expensive first MRG-B2100 release (MRG-B2100B-1A) with a black DLC coating. He also discusses a characteristic of the watch that may not be so apparent in the catalog photos. While modern MR-G models are known for their use of Sallaz polishing for mirror finishes, the MRG-B2100D-1A has a mostly matte-like finish. There are some mirror-polished surfaces like the lower part of each band link and the sides of the top bezel piece, but most of the top surfaces have a brushed finish. GMW-B5000 and GM-B2100 models have stainless steel band links with a mostly brushed finish, but they are more reflective and less matte-like than the MRG-B2100D-1A surfaces, as WatchDavid demonstrates in a side-by-side comparison with a GMW-B5000D-3 (around the 19:34 mark). Other silver MR-G models like the MRG-B5000D-1 also feature the matte silver finish, but unlike the brushed finish of the bezel’s top surface on the MRG-B2100D-1A, that model has a mirror polished top bezel. MR-G models are made in Japan and are known for their superior materials and finishes, which are apparent in the MRG-B2100D-1A.
