AE-1200WH ‘Casio Royale’ gets a leather band upgrade with AE-1200WHL-5AV and cloth bands with AE-1200WHUB

The Casio AE-1200WH series featuring 100-meter water resistance and an approximate 10-year battery life is one of the most iconic Casio watches and a worldwide bestseller. Previously available with resin or stainless steel bands, Casio is introducing the new AE-1200WHL-5AV model with a genuine leather band. Combined with a brown body and black bezel, the watch offers an outdoorsy and dressier style. The leather band has a compatible size of 145 to 215 millimeters, and the total weight of the watch is the same as resin models at 39 grams. This model also has a slightly redesigned face, with “Alarm,” “WR,” and “Chrono” labels below the LCD display where the “10 Year Battery” label used to be, “WR100M” where “5 Alarms” used to be near the Casio logo, and “10 Year Battery” where “WR100M” used to be below the hands subdial.
The AE-1200WHL-5AV has a unique display featuring a world map indicator and a subdial with analog-style hands that displays the home time in all modes. Functions include world time with 4-city multi time, 1/100-second stopwatch, 1/10-second countdown timer (1 second to 24 hours), 5 daily or one-time alarms, hourly time signal, amber LED light with selectable duration (1.5 or 3 seconds), full auto-calendar, button tone on/off, and 12/24-hour format. The watch measures 45 x 42.1 x 12.5 millimeters. As a more affordable Casio model, the display is made of resin glass and the module has an accuracy of +/-30 seconds per month. Originally released in 2012, the AE-1200WH was unofficially nicknamed the “Casio Royale,” due to its similarity in appearance to the Seiko G757 5020 Sports 100 watch seen in the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy.
The AE-1200WHL-5AV was announced for an October 2024 release in Asia (excluding Japan) so far. The price in Singapore will be S$65, which is slightly higher than the AE-1200WHD-1AV with stainless steel band at S$59. This model is also likely to be released worldwide.
Update: Casio Europe also announced the AE-1200WHUB-3AV with a green cloth band and the AE-1200WHUB-8AV with a black cloth band for an October release. These two models also weigh 39 grams each and were not announced for Asia. The AE1200WHUB-3AV and AE1200WHUB-8AV are also being released in the United States for $42.95 each.
