Amazon currently has a limited time deal on the silver and black Casio AQ-S810W-1A4V (a.k.a. AQ-S810W-1A4VCF) for 37% off (as of April 21, 12:00 a.m. PDT), with a coupon available for an additional $7 off. (Update: It is no longer available with the 37% discount but may still be available from Amazon.com as the seller.) This analog-digital watch has a GA-100-inspired case and is powered by Tough Solar. It is smaller (52.2 x 48.3 x 13.7 mm) than the GA-100 but still a bit largeish, and it is very light at 40 grams with a resin bezel and band. Amazon also offers the full black AQ-S810W-1AV for an even lower initial price at the moment.
Even at its full retail price of $55.95, the AQ-S810W offers a lot of value. Features include 100-meter water resistance, world time, 1/100-second stopwatch (59’59.99” max with elapsed time and split time), 2 countdown timers that can be used for interval training (settable in 5-second and 1-minute increments up to 99’55”, repeatable up to 10 times), 5 daily alarms, hourly time signal, LED light (for LCD display only, with 1.5 or 3 second afterglow), full auto calendar, button tone on/off, and 12-24 hour format. There is no light for the analog display, but the hands and markers at every third hour have a Neobrite luminous coating. The day of week indicator is settable in six languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian). As a Tough Solar watch, it has a power saving function that conserves power when the watch is in a dark environment. The watch also has an LCD display for the battery level indicator, which has five levels.
Like some of the other more affordable non-G-Shock Casio watches, the weak points of the AQ-S810W-1A4V are the use of resin glass instead of mineral glass, and a lesser quartz accuracy of +/- 30 seconds a month, which actually isn’t too bad compared to G-Shock’s +/- 15 seconds.
The silver and black AQ-S810W-1A4V is also available at kohls.com with the same discount as a closeout deal.
