Black and Bold Red Series offers a unique tactical style with five affordable G-Shock watches

The G-Shock Black and Bold Red Series features black bezels with unpainted logos combined with red-tinted LCD displays. The stealthy style is reminiscent of the old DW-5600MS-1 and the DW-6900UMS-1 but with non-inverted LCD displays and a bolder red tint. The series consists of affordable models in a variety of sizes and display types, including the origin-based DW-5600BBR-1, the large analog-digital GA-700BBR-1A, the GA-B2100BBR-1A with Tough Solar and Bluetooth, the GD-010BBR-1 with large digital display and 10-year battery, and the extra-rugged and solar-powered GX-56BBR-1. The series is launching in Japan in May 2025, with other regions expected to follow.

Following the recent discontinuation of the GX-56TU-1A5, the mud-resistant GX-56BBR-1 (top right) will be the only active GX-56 model with a non-inverted (a.k.a. positive) LCD display.

It’s unusual to see a G-Shock with black digits on a darkly tinted display, and this gives the watches a unique tactical style while also paying tribute to the traditional G-Shock brand colors of black and red. The LCD displays look rather dark in the catalog images, but in other photos of the watches on display under lights, they appear to be less dark and have more contrast with the black digits (see news.mynavi.jp and www.watch.impress.co.jp for more photos).

It’s not entirely clear if the LED backlight will appear with a red-tinted background (similar to the DW-6900RCS-4) with black digits when illuminated, which could be good for maintaining night vision, or if the LED light will have a reversing effect with a dark background and illuminated white digits, so this may be something to look out for later. The auto-translation of one Japanese article states, “When the light is turned on, the letters on the digital display light up, ensuring visibility.” So it sounds like the LED backlight could have the reversing effect, as previously seen on the Forgotten Future Series. The GA-700BBR-1A would not have any reversing effect on its LCD display since it has a single LED dial light without LCD backlight.
