Casio AE-1600 series with large display and 10-year battery is like a square AE-1500

Amazon.com has the upcoming Casio AE-1600 series available for pre-ordering with a February 1 release date, but with an inexplicably high price of $77.94 for each model. In comparison, Casio Singapore has each model listed as coming soon for S$55 (around US$40). The very similar AE-1500 series has a list price of $29.95 per model in the U.S., and we would have expected the AE-1600 to be the same price. It might be worth following the Amazon listings to see if the prices go down to normal, as AE-1500 models are often discounted there.
The three launch models include the black AE-1600H-1AV, brown AE-1600H-5AV, and gray AE-1600H-8BV. The AE-1600 has similar display elements like large digits and the same functions as the popular AE-1500, but in a squarish octagonal form instead of round. Although it may look like a smaller version of the AE-1500 which is on the large side measuring 54.4 x 51.2 x 15.7 mm, the AE-1600 measures a largish 54.1 x 49.7 x 15.9 mm, which is considerably larger than an AE-1200 and G-Shock DW-5600. The AE-1600 weighs 52 grams or five grams less than the AE-1500. Like the AE-1500, the AE-1600 is not a G-Shock, and some of the limitations include resin glass and a less accurate quartz module of +/-30 seconds a month.
A possible advantage over the AE-1500 is the front-facing light button below the display, which may be easier to press and more accessible than a side button. Functions include dual time, 1/100-second stopwatch (23:59’59.99” max with elapsed time, split time, 1st-2nd place times), countdown timer (1 minute to 24 hours with auto-repeat), 5 multi-function alarms with 1 snooze, hourly time signal, LED backlight, full auto-calendar, and 12/24-hour format. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters and has an approximate 10-year battery life with a CR2032 battery.
The AE-1600 series is not listed by Casio America yet but probably will be soon.
