Casio is crowdfunding a heat-resistant sauna watch in Japan

Although it’s not directly related to G-Shock, the upcoming Casio CPP-002 watch shares a similar mission, as it is an extra-durable watch designed for specific activities. In this case, the watch is intended for use in hot and humid sauna environments where the use of conventional watches may be prohibitive. The sauna watch is being crowdfunded on the Japanese platform makuake.com with a three-month campaign starting on December 2, and three models will be available only in Japan.

The 35.4 mm-wide watch has a simple analog style with a 12-minute counter to time sauna sessions. The unique expandable band is inspired by those used with locker keys at gyms and saunas, and the total weight is of the watch is 24.5 grams. The water resistance rating is 5 ATM (or 50 meters) which will protect the watch from the high humidity found in saunas, and the heat-resistant battery has an approximate life of 5 years.

The three models include the black, white, and orange CPP-002-OR, the full black CPP-002-BK, and the black and light blue CPP-002-BU which is a collaboration with sauna search website Sauna Ikitai.

G-Shock creator Kikuo Ibe has previously spoken about wanting to create a heat-resistant watch, and perhaps the technology from the CPP-002 will one day find its way onto a G-Shock.
