G-Shock DW-5000R-1A hands-on video by WatchDavid and DW-5000C-1A comparison by Casio

German watch YouTuber WatchDavid takes a hand-on look at the G-Shock DW-5000R-1A in a recent video (with English dubbing or subtitles available). The DW-5000R-1A is a very faithful (but not exact) reproduction of the original DW-5000C-1A from 1983. WatchDavid notes the similarities to the original and compares it to the also new DW-5600RL-1, which looks very similar on the outside but has a basic resin center case instead of a stainless steel one, along with a different LCD display layout.

An article from Casio Japan shows the similarities of the DW-5000R-1A to the original DW-5000C-1A, with side-by-side photos. It’s very apparent how the DW-5000R is more like the DW-5000C than recent DW-50XX anniversary models, but you can also how how they differ a little. The DW-5000R case is slightly larger than the DW-5000C, and the structural shape is a little different, which is apparent from the rear view.

Early indications are convincing us that the DW-5000R-1A will be the most popular G-Shock release of the year. Although it’s not a limited edition and is likely to be in production for a while, pre-orders at retailers in Japan have been selling out very quickly. It is also scheduled to be released in other countries in December, but the exact dates are unknown.
