Following the very limited availability from Hodinkee, the G-Shock GW5000U-1 is now available directly from Casio America for $300. This fan-favorite model, inspired by the original G-Shock watch, has a stainless steel case and screw-back with DLC coating, Tough Solar power, and Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time adjustment. The GW5000U-1 is also known for having a softer and more comfortable band than other square models. This is the first time that Casio America is offering a non-limited GW-5000 model for sale. The previous GW-5000-1 was a Japan-only model that was frequently bought by fans outside of Japan as an import, and the GW-5000U-1 with an updated module and LED light was initially available in Japan and Europe. Although the made-in-Japan GW5000U-1 is not a limited edition release, it’s not known how many units Casio America has available or if will be offered in the U.S. indefinitely. (The GW-5000U-1 is also available from Casio Singapore.)

Yup, there it is, I figured this was bound to happen. Best Square ever, IMHO.
What a joke! I can’t get anyone to even change a battery in mine!
Took it to Prouds, where I purchased it, they wanted $50 to send it away just to get a quote!
Never another one for me!!
Maybe try somewhere else?

Isn’t this a solar powered watch? You just put it under the sun for a while and it should start. For more Info – check the manual [3495], available in the box or here https://support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/009/qw3495.pdf
How much bloody f money is it
It says how much in the first sentence.
Seems odd to me that this one is 2x the price of the other modules that have bluetooth. So it’s basically +$150 for a metal caseback and higher quality resin band. Are we done with the 40th anniversary releases? I was really hoping for a resin 1983 square homage release.
Well it’s also a stainless steel case (not just the case back), while the GW-B5600 has a resin case, and it’s made in Japan. It’s a special model made for certain fans, not really meant to compete with or replace other models. That’s why it was a Japan-only model for so long, but there was a lot of demand for it outside of Japan. There should be more 40th Anniversary releases coming up. There are usually a few DW-5000 models released during anniversary celebrations and there was a GW-5000 model for the 35th Anniversary.
do you know if a resin bezel can fit on a GMWB5000?
Not with an official resin bezel from Casio, but you can find some unofficial resin bezels from aftermarket parts sellers online.
Better band, case back, steel core, understated design, GOAT display. “It looks better and feels better than other squares” really does justify +$150, and it’s totally in line with other “premium” Gshock squares that often are priced way beyond that. It might not be your thing but it’s not an outlier.
Should it have the newer bluetooth model? Sure, it just wasn’t available when this thing was first released. I think they’ll update it in a year or two. Maybe Casio was unloading extra inventory abroad in anticipation of the new release?
“Update (2/15): A promotional e-mail from Casio America describes the GW5000U-1 as a “Limited Release,” and it is now sold out.”
I wonder if it’s a test for US markets and a coming global release of a successor to the GW5000U-1
