G-Shock MRG-B2000JS-1A ‘Juryoku-Maru: San’ katana edition with recrystallized titanium and mother-of-pearl-inspired band is limited to 800

The latest G-Shock MR-G watch is inspired by the Juryoku-Maru: San original katana commissioned by Casio for G-Shock’s flagship line. The MRG-B2000JS-1A is limited to 800 pieces worldwide (each with a serial number), with an expected price of $8,000 in the U.S. In Japan, the MRG-B2000JS-1AJR is scheduled to be released in November with a tax-included price of 1.1 million yen. The original sword is the work of two Japanese master craftsmen: swordsmith Kamiyama Teruhira and artisan Nomura Mamoru who created the aogai-nuri (mother-of-pearl inlay) blue shell lacquer design on the scabbard.

Elements of the watch inspired by the sword include the recrystallized hybrid titanium bezel which represents the sword’s edge pattern. The bezel pattern is created with recrystallized layers of pure and Ti64 titanium that undergo a deep-layer hardening process. The result is a unique pattern on each watch, and the 燦 (San) character is hand-etched on the case back of each watch by the swordsmith. The pure titanium case undergoes a recrystallization and deep-layer hardening processes along with a blue-gray arc ion plating (AIP®) for a uniquely patterned and colored appearance.

The band is made of DAT55G titanium alloy with the center links inspired by the lacquer design from the scabbard. These unique links are created by Casio’s patent-pending process that produces light-reflecting microstructures on the metal surfaces, giving the links a dynamic glittering appearance that changes depending on the viewing angle and light. The bezel and band also have a DLC coating.

Another element from the sword is the hishimaki-gara diamond pattern on the dial.

As a peak MR-G model, the MRG-B2000JS-1A is made in Japan at Casio’s Premium Production Line and features Sallaz polishing.
