Launching is September is the G-Shock GLX-5600KB-1, which is the third signature G-Shock model with California-born professional surfer and 2020 Olympic silver medalist Kanoa Igarashi. The limited edition G-LIDE GLX-5600 surfing watch features a black metal face protector, a gold display border, and a bezel and band made of mixed black and gray resin, giving each watch a unique pattern expressing the swells and waves of the ocean. This is probably the watch that Igarashi wore during the Paris 2024 Olympics, as he was seen wearing a dark square G-Shock model while competing.
The watch also has Igarashi’s name and signature engraved on the stainless steel case back, which also appear on the display when the EL backlight is activated. The surfer’s WSL Championship Tour bib number “50” is printed on the lower band.
Igarashi stated in a press release, “The GLX-5600 has functions that are perfect for my surfing style, and it is a reliable partner in the sea. The strong design with bumper protection is also one of the big attractions for surfers.”
Features include a tide and moon graph, world time, 1/100-second stopwatch with auto start (5-second countdown), countdown timer with progress beeper and auto-repeat, 3 multi-function alarms, flash alert, auto EL backlight, and approximate 7-year battery life.
In Japan, the GLX-5600KB-1JR will have a tax-included price of 22,000 yen. The GLX-5600KB-1 will also be released worldwide with a price of €159 in the E.U.
Update: G-Shock U.S. released the GLX5600KB-1 for $160 in October.
