How to get official strap adapters for G-Shock DW-5600, GA-2100, GA-B2100, GM-2100

Bonus features of G-Shock 5600 and 2100 line watches that include a cloth band are that the band is easily swappable with aftermarket bands and the included strap adapters can also be removed. In the case of GA-2100, GA-B2100, and GM-2100 models, these strap adapters have quick release levers which allow them to be easily removed and attached to other models in the same series and other compatible series. Recent DW-5600 models with a cloth band do not have the quick-release levers, but the adapters can be removed with a spring bar tool. These strap adapters are made with resin, but they also have a stainless steel reinforcement which includes the sections that attach to the band’s spring bar. While unofficial aftermarket strap adapters are readily available, some of which may fit and work better than others, buying a G-Shock that includes a cloth band is a simple way to get official adapters.
It is also possible to order the official adapters separately from an authorized Casio parts supplier like PacParts, but they are usually not in stock and may take 2-3 weeks before shipping. If ordering the adapters (excluding the band part), you need to order two of the “Band Piece” and also two of the “Spring Rod (Band Piece)” and two “Spring Rod (Band)” pieces for one watch. For the GA2100BCE-1A strap adapters and rods, that is a total of $37.14 at PacParts. (The “Band Piece” part of some other cloth band models are slightly less expensive, with links below.) In the end, it’s less expensive and probably easier to buy aftermarket adapters from JaysAndKays or somewhere, but this is something to consider if you want to keep everything authentic.
Will the GA-2100 strap adapters work with DW-5600 models and vice versa? Will a GA-2100 strap adapter fit the GA-B2100, GM-2100, and GBM-2100?
GA-2100 and DW-5600 bands are different, and we do not suggest interchanging parts between those series. Strap adapters from a GA-2100 should also fit the DW-5610, DWE-5600, DWE-5610, GA-2110, GA-B2100, GBM-2100, GM-2100, GM-5600, and GM-6900. Casio previously released official replacement bands in Japan that are compatible with those series (as of June 2024), so the GA-2100 strap adapters are expected to fit them too.
When it comes to recent DW-5600 models like the DW5600BCE-1 that do not have the quick-release levers, removing and installing the strap adapters is best done with a specialized spring bar tool with a V-shaped tip. Removing the band parts from the strap adapter can be done with a SIM card tool or paper clip, and the band can be removed while the adapter is still attached to the case. The width of the included Cordura band is 20 millimeters.
For the GA2100BCE-1A strap adapter, you may still need some kind of tool or object to engage the quick-release lever, but you do not need a spring bar tool. I was not able to measure any cloth bands on 2100 models, but the GA2100BCE-1A band also appears to be 20 millimeters wide based on Casio images. One reason you may want to go with unofficial aftermarket adapters is to get one that fits wider 22-millimeter bands if you prefer a larger band.
Note that aftermarket bands that include their own spring bars may not fit properly (or at all) with the Casio adapters, and it’s recommended to keep using the official “Spring Rod (Band)” pieces with aftermarket bands.
(For the GA700BCE-1A pictured at the top center, the band may not be as easily removeable and swappable from the adapters like the 2100 and 5600 models, as the adapter has a different design that does not have the drilled lug style of holes.)
Removing the strap adapter and band from the DW5600BCE-1:
Unlike the 2100 models that have quick-release levers, the DW5600BCE-1 requires a spring bar tool to remove the strap adapter from the case.
I was not expecting to see a G-Shock logo here.
The strap adapter part is reinforced with stainless steel.
The band parts are easy to remove from the strap adapters, as the apapters are like drilled lugs with holes on the outside. Push on the spring bar through the hole with a small round tool while pushing the band toward the rear of the watch.
Once the band is removed from the adapter, the spring bar in the band fits very tightly, but it is removable, as seen below reinstalled without the band. The strap adapter and band spring bar offer enough room to accommodate a thin NATO or ZULU strap. Installing a NATO strap does not require removing the adapter, just the spring bars for the band.
Here is the DW5600BCE-1 with an aftermarket NATO strap. Some advantages of a NATO strap are that the watch will stay on the wrist if one of the spring bars or adapters breaks and some may find it more comfortable and breathable to have the strap material between the metal case back and the wrist
