Metal-covered G-Shock GM-2110 with stainless steel band could be Casio’s biggest release of the year

G-Shock GM-2110D Series with Stainless Steel Bezels and Bands

Casio Taiwan is the first of the casio.com sites to announce and list the G-Shock GM-2110 series. These GM-2110D watches are categorized as G-STEEL models there and have a stainless steel bezel and band with a resin case. Functionally, the GM-2110 is the same as the GM-2100 and uses the same module (5611). The GM-2110 measures 49.3 x 44.4 x 11.8 millimeters (same as the GM-2100) and weighs 146 grams. The battery life is approximately three years with two SR726W batteries.

The price at Casio Taiwan is NT$10,000 each, which is the same as a Gravitymaster GR-B300 model there. Casio Taiwan has taken the unusual step of unveiling the series before the Japan site and accepting pre-orders at casio.com/tw starting on August 23 at 12:00 p.m. until August 30, with general sales on September 1 and shipping on September 2. (G-Shock U.K. also listed the series as coming soon with a price of £279.) The series is expected to be released worldwide in September. (The U.S. price is expected to be $300. The tax-included Japan list price is unexpectedly high at 60,500 yen, but it is expected to be sold for less at some retailers in Japan.)

The new images (below) give a better impression of the reflective quality of the dials. The launch models include the light blue GM-2110D-2A, navy blue GM-2110D-2B, green GM-2110D-3A, orange GM-2110D-4A, and silver GM-2110D-7A. The navy GM-2110D-2B appears to have more of a matte dial as seen in a hands-on video from Neel Select Shop (youtube.com), which gives it a less shiny appearance than the others. The other models offer distinct radial and dynamic reflections under bright lighting.

The GM-2110 has an analog-digital display with a dual LED light for the dial and LCD backlight. Other features include world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, hourly time signal, full auto-calendar, button tone on/off, and hand shift (to clear the view of the LCD display). Like other G-Shock watches, the GM-2110D models are fully shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200 meters.

GM-2110 LED Light

Considering the overall popularity of the 2100 line, the GM-2110 series could be the biggest G-Shock and Casio release of the year, as the price makes it accessible to more people than pricier Full Metal G-Shock watches like the GM-B2100. Although the lack of solar power and Bluetooth are drawbacks to consider when compared to the GM-B2100, the GM-2110 makes up for it in style points, as the highly reflective metallic dials seen on three of the launch models are not available with solar models, and there is no GM-B2100 with a silver dial. We also appreciate how Casio went with non-inverted (a.k.a. positive) LCD displays for all five models, which many people find to be more legible, whereas almost all of the models in the GM-B2100 series so far have an inverted LCD display, except for the limited and sold out GM-B2100VF-1A. The GM-2110 is also thinner and lighter than the GM-B2100 by 1 millimeter and 19 grams. A notable difference with the GM-2110 is that the band has a different design that uses spring bars for the links and not push pins, so it requires a fork tool but shouldn’t be too difficult for DIYers to adjust. The band lacks the distinctive dimples of the GM-B2100 band and has a brushed finish instead of a polished one. As this band has resin connecting parts and appears to have been designed for the existing structure of the GM-2100, it will probably fit on previous GM-2100 and maybe GBM-2100 models.

The GM-2110 offers a fashionable and functional GADA (Go Anywhere Do Anything) watch at a reasonable price, and we won’t be surprised if many of the debut GM-2110D models end up selling out quickly in some countries. The five models are not designated as limited editions, but that doesn’t exclude the possibility of any of them being discontinued in the future.
