The stainless steel band of the GM-2110 also has resin parts (which is a good thing) [video]

Something that we noticed while the upcoming G-Shock GM-2110 was listed on several European retail sites (before being removed) was a dealer catalog image that showed the band specification icon with the label “S/R” (or maybe it was “R/S”), indicating that the band is made of stainless steel and resin. While the band certainly looks like full stainless steel, we believe that the resin parts may be connecting the band to the case. As there are no other metal-covered GM models with a stainless steel band attached to a resin case (as is expected with the GM-2110), we haven’t seen such a band before with a GM series, and this could be a new design with the parts that make contact with the lugs and case being made of resin to prevent the possible wear and tear that a metal band attachment might have on a resin case. These parts could also act as “wings” under the band that conform to the curves of the wrist to provide comfort and a better fit.

If this is the case, it would make a good argument for buying a GM-2110 over unauthorized aftermarket metal bands, and it gives us hope that the GM-2110 band will be compatible with previous GM-2100 models or GBM-2100 models which are almost the same size as the GM-2100 (just 0.1-millimeter thicker). We also recall seeing that the GM-2110 has the same module 5611 as the GM-2100, so they are probably the same size.

After giving it more thought, we actually have seen something like this before with the DWE-5640RX-7, which has a half stainless steel and half resin band with the stainless steel side connecting to the resin case with a resin part on the underside of the band. The DW-5610MT-1 with stainless steel and resin links is another example, which has a first link on the lower band made of stainless steel that is attached to the watch with a resin part. We expect the GM-2110 band to have the same connecting structure as these models, but with the remainder of the band’s links and clasp being full stainless steel.
