Two new G-Shock models for January that were not revealed by leaks include the DW-5600KHK24-1 and DW-5600KHG24-1, which are now available for pre-ordering in Japan. Like the recent Shiba Inu series, these models are inspired by Japanese culture and are made in Japan.
The faces of these origin-style DW-5600 watches feature the art of Katsushika Hokusai (widely known as Hokusai), a famous painter and printmaker of the ukiyo-e art era during the Edo period of Japan. There’s a good chance that most people have previously seen a copy of the The Great Wave off Kanagawa that adorns the face of the DW-5600KHK24-1, which was originally a block print created in 1831. The DW-5600KHG24-1 features the Fine Wind, Clear Morning print from 1832. Both artworks are part of the artist’s Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series of prints depicting the iconic mountain.
The LED backlights of both watches display the kanji characters for “Japan,” which are also engraved on the stainless steel case backs. The eco-friendly boxes are printed with the artwork from their respective watches.
In Japan, the DW-5600KHK24-1JR and DW-5600KHG24-1JR have a tax-included price of 17,600 yen each, and the Japanese names ending in “JR” suggests that they are limited editions like other Japanese culture series.
